I have a GM RDS radio we pulled out of a wrecked impala, and I was wondering how to bypass the security on it so we can hook it up in the shop. Thanks. Matt

What year is the Impala that you pulled the radio out of?

...to my knowledge if the RDS radio is a gmrc01 plug, i dont believe you can bypass it. I had that problem originaly with my 2000 monte carlo because i tried to swap the cassette deck out for a factory cd deck. My unit was equipped with rds as well, and a local chevrolet dealer told me that the radio reads part of the vin# for the vehichle from the BCM. there very well may be a way to reprogram it, but i cant see it being very cost effective.

There are no ways of by-passing this.. the only way is to transplant the whole BCM system.

Actually... there is now a Class2 GM deck service piece available. Bench top unit, allows you to alter the EEPROM in there to change VIN, among other things, and power it up to bench test it.

"Only" $1799 from DLC........
