I have a customer who has a 1987 Ford LTD with the Ford Premium Sound System in it. He tried installing a Pioneer DEH-17 CD Player and only the rear speakers play (used a harness and everything seems to be wired correct). All the speakers work when using the factory unit, so I figured that the fronts run off an amp but I can't figure out what combination of wire(s) are used to turn it on. Any suggestions?

The amp lives in the trunk, passenger's side of rear deck.   What plugs are in the dash? The usual 8pin grey and 8pin black flat style plugs? I usually pull all 4 speakers to the back and bypass the amp on those cars.

There are 3 gray plugs. One is an 8 pin plug for the speaker wires and the other 2 are 4 pin square plugs.
