I'm going to be installing a new head unit in my 98 intrepid es,and i will be bypassing the infinity amp since i'm changing the speakers.What size wire is the harness so that i can keep it all the same gauge??

DON'T cut the factory wiring harness.  Use a wiring harness adapter from Metra or Scosche.

Listen to DYohn.  If you cut the wires you are making a hell of a lot of extra work.  Find a wiring harness.  Most online stores have them for sale.  You'll be way happier in the long run.

exspeacily when you deside to sell the car and you need to return the factory system back to operation. it will be the best thing to do.

OMG OMG OMG OMG DONT EVA EVA EVA cut the factory harness on a car. I dont know about other installers but this is my BIGGEST headache. (sorry about yelling) I had 2 of them over the weekend each one was over an hour "ringing" out the harnessesposted_image
