I am trying to set up a system for IASCA Street Pro and need some advice on a head unit. I was going to go with Alpines DVA-7996 because it has opitcal out. The retail is also like $1199.99. I was told by a former IASCA installer of the year that optical out to a DSP would blow people away, then on the other hand I have a few current competitors that told me I would be dumb to buy something like that. So I'm taking it to the forum whether or not I should get it and if not What would you suggest???

If the money is there, go for it, but I would go with a higher fidelity player than an Alpine.... a Nakimichi. If you have a good processor, you will be able to get better sound from the Alpine with the optical output ( as long as the processor has an optical input ). What processor/EQ's are you using ?

None Yet, I was going for one of Alpines DSP (PXAH510) but I'm just trying to sort this stuff out now because I'll be buying the stuff in Jan., If there's a cheaper way to have a nice Head unit and processor any advice would help because some people told me the digital out is a waste and some people told me only compete if I have it.

The thing about digital is that your whole sound comes down to your DA (Digital>Analog) converters. High end recording studios are now using extremely expensive outboard convertors,so the mic siganls can be be converted at the highest quality to digital. If you trust your DA converters (your proscessor), digital is the way to go. Otherwise, trust the converters in your headunit (I assume most outboard converters are better quality than many HU's). Although, I have heard the Nak DA's are pretty decent. All comes down to where you want the conversion to happen, and which DA's are best.
