I just got a xtant 301a mono amp and i hooked it up and it wont work. the little red l.e.d light comes on and the subs barely move (you have to touch them to know they are moving) i am hooking up two 4 ohm subs to it and there is a two spots for speaker wire, so i am assuming it is parralled inside. i hooked up the wires normal to run at 2 ohms and then i tried every wiring combo i could think of, still nothing. Wondering what i should do and what could possibly be wrong.

A red light on most amps means it's in protect mode. I'm not sure if this is the case in your situation, or if it's just a power light. It's been years since I've touched an Xtant amp. Check your manual to be sure. If it is protect mode, disconnect the speakers and see if the light goes out. If it does, check for any shorted voice coils/ speaker wires. If the light stays on, unplug the inputs (RCA's) and see if it goes out. If the light is still on, your amp probably has an internal fault somewhere.

My ex once told me I have a perfect face for radio.
Thanks, I did some tinkering and I found out that the red light is just a power light, this is an older amp and the output gain control and the input gain control are right on the circuit board with all the electronics so all I had to do was find them and turn them up. The input gain is controlled by something called a "jumper" which I have never seen before, and the output is controlled by a little knob that I swear the people from xtant tried to hide from me

, the manual says its fine to turn them up all the way but there is distortion when I turn the head unit up when the amp is up near max, The amp puts out 300w rms and the subs I have are rated for 150 rms so I am about 99% sure the distortion is from the lack of power handling in my subs, luckily my new subs (2- shallow mount pioneers @ 300w rms) arrive on Thursday, if you don’t think that the new subs will fix my distortion problem please let me know what else I should do. Also the box I have is way to small for the subs currently in it (that’s why I am using the shallow mount subs).
Thanks a ton, all advice anyone can offer helps out a lot.

Take the jumper and move it too at least +10.... then turn the gain DOWN...
go to www.xtant.com look for an install manual
