I bought one ten inch 2ohm+2ohm dual voice coil alpine type R subwoofer 2005 (SWR-1022d); and a Kenwood 1000watt max stereo/bridgeable amp (KAC-7252). In my Kenwood instruction manual it says
"When you wish to use the unit as a stereo amp, stereo connections are used. The speakers to be connected should have an impedance of 2 ohms or greater.
When you wish to use the unit as a high-output monaural amp. Bridged connections are used. The speakers to be connected should have an impedance of 4 ohms or greater. When multiple speakers are to be connected, ensure that the combined impedance is 4 ohms."

When I first read this it confused me because it made it seem like I would not be able to wire my 2 ohm sub to the amp, but when I called Kenwood they told me to connect each voice coil to the amp so that the amp is wired as if it were in stereo mode. The tech support guy told me that dual voice coils act as two speakers and so having it connected in stereo would work instead of bridging it. Something about this idea seems wrong to be. I have never heard of people connecting dual voice coils in this manner. Maybe one of you guys can shed some light on this situation. I'm worried that connecting the two different coils in my speaker to two different outputs will cause them to make different sounds (the right vs. left) instead of working together. So do you think that this set up will work?

Just to be clear:
I was told to connect the first voice coil to the left stereo output on the amp. And I was told to connect the second voice coil to the right stereo output on the amp. I called alpine also and they told me that I should do what Kenwood suggested since they are the makers of the amp, but I'm worried that if the tech guy was wrong it might destroy this beautiful new speaker.

thanks for your help.

Sounds good to me, it is quite alright to wire each vc to a channel. Make sure they are wired in phase (neg. to neg. and pos. to pos. all around).

In a sense it is like two speakers.

Yes, this will work fine. It wouldn't harm anything. Most people would wire the coils in series, then bridge the amp to a 4-ohm mono load. This is essentially the same as a 2-ohm stereo load (one coil per channel). Do it which ever way you want.
