When running multiple components and distributing the power what are the accepteble gauges to split from the bigger to the smaller. For example is it ok to go from 0ga to two 2ga wires or two 4ga wires

Yes its acceptable to split 0awg to 2, 4, 8, or 10 guage, , all you need to do is fuse the wire in the distrobution block to the max amp rateing or less of the smaller wire. for example, if you split the 0awg to two 4 awg's put a fuse of 150 amps or less on each 4 awg.

how many times can i be split, or should i just look at the max current the 0ga can handle and divide it by the max current of the the smaller wire to see number of times it can be split

Assuming that each wire is pulling the max current all the time (which they probably won't be), then yes that's the way to go.  Realistically you should be able to split up 1/0g all you want, so go hog wild within reason.  I don't personally fuse the larger wires after a split (2-4g), but it is a good idea.  Smaller wires absolutely.

How many components are you powering?
