I have an old 8" bazooka sub just sitting around and I want to kill it. I think it is rated at 50w rms. I figured I'll run about 300w rms to it in free air and play a 60hz sine wave.
Is there a better way to make this thing smoke besides lighting it on fire?
I know it's pointless, but I figured it would be cheap amusement.

Do a search for author "uthinkuknoaudio". He used to get really, really excited about things like that, and there are several threads to demonstrate it. Here's one!------------- Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

That won't do it - insuffucient voltage. Welders are high CURRENT devices, where their output voltage is very low - usually 30 volts or less, and most are DC output as well.
(Vp-p)^2/Load
30*30/4
900/4=225 watts - (depending on the welder - my welder happens to only be 17v, so it WOULDN'T kill it...)
I re-read the original post, and in this case, yes, a 50 watt woofer WOULD go away, but it'd me FAR more spectacular plugged directly into the wall...
170*170=28900
28900/4=7225 watts!
Oh, yeah. That'd "git 'er done" in about 10 cycles! ------------- It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

I hate questions like this. OK, why burn it up? Sell it for $20 and go buy yourself a tootsie pop. ------------- Support the12volt.com
