I have a question. I followed all the wiring schematics from this site and I have everything hooked up on my pioneer cd player in my 97 ford ranger....the only problem i am having is that i cannot get any preset memory on the unit. The time and the preset stations keep resetting.....Does anyone have any insight on this problem...I have followed all the instructions and the unit's memory isn't functioning....Somebody please advise.

the fords blue/black gets your red wire from the radio harness....check the fuses in the fuse box (dome light, cig. lighter, instr. lights) look here to see how different tech sheets can be https://www.installdr.com/Harnesses/Ford-Wiring.pdf -------------

The yellow wire either has no power, or is connected together with your red wire for some reason. As recommended above, start by checking your fuses. If they all test good with a meter, then you may need to run a fused lead from the constant at the ignition harness. Also check that the yellow wire has not pulled out of the harness and is making good contact. ------------- My ex once told me I have a perfect face for radio.

i dont have a blue/black wire. my red and yellow wire from the radio are connected to a yellow/black wire. that is the only way my radio is even getting power. i dont know what to do about this. its annoying...i had a previous radio that i installed and i had no problems. it was ripped out and stolen. could that have caused some damage and if i want to test my wires, what kind of tool do i use.

Get a basic DMM (digital multimeter). You can get a cheap pocket one at RadioShack for probably less than $20 bucks. Not bad for a hobbyist. It's good for measuring voltage and resistance. Don't try to measure current with it though, it's only rated in like 200 mA. Set the meter to read DC voltage, on a scale that can measure 12 volts. Touch the black probe to a ground, like the case of the radio, the antenna, or the cigarette lighter rim. Now touch the red probe to your suspect wires, one at a time. It should be GREEN/ purple, according to this: https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/detail.asp?info=alarm&year=1995-97&make=Ford&model=Ranger&ID=17846&type=Stereo If this wire has no power, check your fuses with a meter. i have no clue what that is....does anyone know what wires i may have connected wrong....everything works....i get power. i just dont have amy memory presets and the clock resets back to 12:00 all the time....i just need to know what i am doing wrong...i dont understand any of the DMM stuff and all that....should i just take it to a person who knows about wiring....

your radio resets because you have your yellow and red wires hooked up to a wire that loses power when you shut off the truck. Your yellow wire from the radio needs power all the time in order to keep the memory. What geepherdr has suggested is the correct path since none of the wires listed in the documentation has worked for ya. If you're not comfortable with wiring, this sounds like it may be a job best left to a pro shop. I know it's a basic wiring issue, but as you said; you know nothing about wiring.

Do you have a green wire with a purple stripe? If so, this should be connected to your yellow wire in your radio harness. Check to make sure this wire has power. If it doesn't, check for a blown fuse. If that doesn't solve your problem, I recommend taking your truck to an experienced installer and having that person run a new wire (fused) for your constant. ------------- My ex once told me I have a perfect face for radio.
