well in reply to the topic "best way to kill a sub" i think dwarrens idea was best sell it for a tootsie pop. thats the way i would go, little devil. i love tootsie pops. i wounder how long it would take to get to center of that tootsie pop?

but that 120vac will diffently put that sub out of commission.

anyway i heard i rumor once that an ols school cerwin vega stroker could withstand 120vac. supposedly it was done, but i never saw it personaly. has anyone else heard of such a thing?

I'm guessing you are talking about getting 120VAC from a wall outlet. That would fall flats on its face because it would almost present the circuit with a short circuit. 4ohms isn't much resistance. So, it would immediatly flip the circuit breaker before anything happened.

Look, review Ohm's law.  120V into a 4 ohm load is 3600 watts and a 30-amp draw and in the US it'd produce a 60Hz tone.  Lots of circuits will supply that, lots of high-power subs will withstand that.  It is no big deal.

I really don't understand the fascination some kids have with this idea of plugging a speaker into the wall.

i agree with dyohn that this is highly retarded... but i know the people at mtx luv it since they have a test where they plugged a 9500 into the wall and it didn't blow.. highly stupid.. don't people have anything better to do with there time?? seriously

well that what i was stating . cerwin vega had the same test back in the 90's . to show how tuff the sub was. and thank you for the input dyohn i should of took the time too do the math. there really was no reason for the tone of words. whoa

I am afraid you've got me confused here, I wouldn't say such a dated line, you're looking for a different fella. Who eats "tootsie pops" anyway? I call 'em suckers...

Dyohn and ragoal you guys take this too seriously man. It is a crappy beat up 8" I was going to throw in the trash anyways.

I'm not going to plug it into a wall outlet (that's crazy), but I will just hook it up to an amp and see what it can do at 6 times its rms rating. I wouldn't be surprised if it can actually handle it for good amount of time.

And then there was a Canadian who ran a 60hz tone cd into his Soundstream Rubicon 1000, next he took his skilsaw and hooked it up to the bridged outputs and proceeded to start cutting 2x4's.

I can remember doing the speaker cone meltdown in the late 80's, we then got more enjoyment throwing them high into the air to see how many pieces we could get it to break into and finally we would drive over it.

Uhhhhh, I think if someone brought me back a speaker that had been plugged into the wall, I would know it and I don't it would be covered under warranty. Definately not JL. Burnt voice coils seldom are these days.

I find it rather interesting that the manufacturer will warranty it for <insert BIG BOX BUTCHER name here> and they will not warranty it for the indipendent, yet we share the same customers and pay with the same money.
