6 Volt System to 12 Volt

Hello,

I'm new to the forum and I have a question. Does anybody know how I can get 12 Volts out of my 6 Volt System. I have a 1951 dodge that has a 6 volt system in it and I would like to put in a decent sound system.  Is there something I could build that would give me the 12V and the current needed to do such a thing? Any help is greatly appreciated!!:)

Other than that, you're limited to something like this:

The downside is it's expensive for the small amount of power that it gives you- don't plan on running any amps with that thing, probably just a deck and 4 speakers.  It's also not 100% efficient because you will always lose something in the conversion process.

If that's all you're looking for then go for it, but your options are limitless if you convert to a 12 volt system.

The most logical route to me would be to have 2 separate electrical systems in the vehicle. 1 keep the stock system for running the vehicle, then get a 12 volt battery and 12 volt alternator, use the 12 volt battery/alt to power the aftermarket accessories separately.

alpine guy is right on point and it 's not like it would be hard as in a newer vechile your almost wide open for space on the front of the block either make a few brackets or im sure you could find them on line. and with that set up you will never have to worrie about tour asserories taking from your engine or dead battery for a no start. but one thing does come to mind would you need to keep the ground of the 12 seperate from the 6 because of ground loop noise, generator noise, fan motor noise? and reverse polarity systems?i know that a 58 mopar has that style system (reverse polarity)or could you keep it as a comon ground? if you didnt have the reverse polarity system and get away with out experincing noise. .just make sure you know what kind of system you have befor you make any dission. and if you go with alpine guys idea. i myself would take ground to the assories via one double run 0 awg and distrubt from that. thats if your gonna get crazy with your sound, and how many assories you add on now and in the future.
