Ok, so I have a 97 Volkswagen Jetta with the "Premium Audio Package," and I am trying to wire a new head unit into the car.

My problem is that the switched ignition wire (blue/gray) in the car does not work, therefor my head unit won't turn on.

Can anyone suggest alternative switched 12v sources that are easily accessible?

Drop the under dash and search for a terminal strip on the driver's side.  You can get a switched there.

their are many switched points in a car. but if you dont know whats what. id suggest taking the car to a installer. it wouldnt cost that much. its cheaper than conecting to the wrong wire and screwing something up.
