hi,
what is the best way to distribute power from a 4gauge power cable into various size power cables such as 8 and 12 gauge? thanks

A distribution block.

as long as you can get a fuse small enough and the wire can be secured with the screw you can use the smallest wire you can get your hands on. for example you can have a distrobution block with a 1 guage input and you can have a 18 guage wire running from it fused at 5 amps.

yup, be shure to get a fused distrobution block and fuse the wires to their rated capacity.
