How about Concord tape decks, Audio Stamp, Speaker Works Buick GSX and where the first " sound off" was?

I don't remember the first "official sound-off" (or maybe I do ;), but I do remember competitions as far back as 1982. I also remember Linear, Concord and Speaker Works ...met Mark Fukuta at a Sony Zone show in Detroit more than 10 years ago. How about Munsie 8-tracks, Panasonic's cockpits, Audiomobile, Bozak woofers, Sony's Shuttle, Monolithic amplifiers,  Clarion's 300EQB...?

A great thread to date our selves. I cant really come up with any great stuff, just remember the a/d/s power plates and ppi art series as still being cool. Some of the names ring a bell, but nothing terribly outstanding.

I never owned any of the plates, but I had a ph15 with the 642csi x-over for my first setup. Great amps, just weren't too efficient.

God 12 Volt, you might be as old as I am! The first Factory sponsered sound off was at the fair grounds in Bakersfield Ca.in , your right 1982. Ahhh I remember it well, girls in white bikinis, plenty of beer and telling the contestents that if they didn't put on their AC we would deduct points ( it was 101 degrees out there ) Craig powerplay, Jensen coaxials, Pioneer KP 500....... Kudos to Paul at Translex in Bakersfield ( God rest his soul ) a real visionary in this business.

Wasn't that the company responsible for an amp that came with a high output alternator for about $25k?

Sounds like I might be as old as you ...hopefully not older ;) I didn't make it to the west coast until '87. I remember a Paul, but he was the founder of Audiomobile and lived near Costa Mesa and Huntington Beach if memory serves correctly. I moved back here in '89 shortly after my son (aka 6 volt) was born. He's now wanting to dust off much of my old equipment to throw into his vehicle.

I remember if you had a Craig powerplay 8 track and a pair of Mindblower 9x9's you were the S--t.But if you rolled the windows down in your 1974 Olds 88 or 98 it looked like Cheech and Chong were riding with you.

Actually Dr. Crankenstein did make a amp that tipped the scales at around $25k, it was called the DRAG QUEEN. It is one of the funniest things I have ever seen in car audio. Damn is it ever ugly.

Heh....

I have a Denon pullout CD deck running a pair of early 80's era Jensen Triax 6x9's kicking around for fun in my garage.

I also remember little gems like the Pioneer GM-100, DIN plugs for interconnects (Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer... and nobody's were compatible without some rewiring).   The original Alpine CD players.... Yamaha car audio..... original MTX Road Thunder and Thunder series subs with the red surrounds..... and matching red amps. Linear Power.....   Rockford DSM series amps..... when a 30Hz lower frequency response on a tape deck was a "big deal"..... DCC (the next best thing to cassette!), Sony's in dash DAT deck..... Yamaha indash CD players with the little protective tray thingy for your CD's...

And the best piece of in car technology I have ever seen? My original 1960's Cadillac 45RPM player. Slot load record player.... yeah!

Gus

PS: Anyone want a WORKING Alpine 7 Cassette changer? I know where there is one......... it's huge
