Cable splicing assistance

Hi there,
I have a Kenwood KDCMP225 head unit installed in my 91 Jeep Wrangler. I have an adapter for the CD changer input that converts the changer input to RCA females. I have an RCA to 3.5 mm cable (Acoustic Research) plugged into that such that I can use my ipod in my jeep. Anyhow, while working on the jeep this weekend (not audio related) I inadvertently severed both RCA side wires of the Kenwood adapter (right side of image below) and one of the Acoustic research cables. I figured I could just splice the 3.5 mm cable right to the kenwood adapter giving me the adapter to 3.5 mm connection.
However when I stripped the Acoustic Research cable (blue in the pic) there are 3 wires in there (red white and yellow) along with the bare silver (which I assume is the shielding). It seemed like a logical idea but I'm not sure what to do with all of the wires that make up the RCA side of the Acoustic Research cable. So now I'm not sure if this splicing idea is reasonable or not since I'm not overly familiar with audio cables. I mostly work on scientific equipment. Any suggestions/recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
