I have two of the units and I am curious about your experience with the iPod part.
BYPASS: I just spent the past 1 1/2 hours reading the threads on the bypass. I can't wait to do it for two reasons: #1: Pioneer should never have made it so dangerous to try to function the GPS by locking out rudimentary functions, such as POI searches, etc. You should never have to pull over to utilize the GPS functions and risk getting hit or caught up in a ghetto, as I read in one thread. Good point. Hop in any Mercedes or other car with factory nav and you can access all whether your 8 or 88 years old. #2: I am spoiled from the past having video in my car for years. Although I know why Pioneer blocked it (and should if you've been around someone who can't talk on a phone and drive- imagine them watching TV!) The lagalities are true. But for those of us that desire and are ready for it- great, and thanks for the tips in the threads. If there are any updates to the bypass, let me know please.
iPOD INTERFACE: I can't believe I didn't spend more time researching instead of assuming what I was paying for. Can you believe that you could drop a couple $ grand for an iPod interface and touch-screen nav unit and NOT be able to use on-screen controls or menus for the iPod? I was floored that I have to use the little knob to poke my way through it. Pioneer should realize it is harder to control the iPod interface in a parked car than it is to watch TV, type in a POI search for Starbucks, while at the same time pass a slow-poke on the Fast-Track doing 90+! :x Joking, of course- I would already have my Starbucks in the car.
But seriously, has anyone heard of a new controller to bring the iPod contents on-screen?

turn your unit (motorized piece) upside down...you will notice a silver sticker in the center about .5" x .5" in size...peel it back to reveal an opening in the chassis. you will see a place for a resistor on the board labeled R197...solder a piece wire from one opening to the other and you will have bypassed the unit. you must still ground the light green wire.

The iPod interface absolutely SUCKS! I am going to get myself one of those charger/line-in plugs and wire it up myself by hacking off the cigarette lighter portion and tapping into my cigarette lighter for power, and running a line in to the N2. Although I am not sure if you need to buy the CD-RB20 Auxilary-Input IP-BUS adapter or if you can just use the stereo input's on the video input, and just not use the video portion. And then I could control it with the ease of the iPod instead of this command driven POS I paid good $$$ for!!! Needless to say, I still need to tap into my VSS wire so when I go in there taking everything apart it's comming out and getting returned!
Well you can use the A/V inputs but your sound will be crappy. I tried this using both the pre-outs from another Pioneer unit and the outputs from a portable CD player and the sound was the same in both cases. I don't even know why Pioneer bothered to put those inputs there if they were gonna be so crappy. I wouldn't even hook up a VCR to them.

I played around with the iPod screens today and figured out how it works a little better. I have to dig intothe manual to find out if I can relable some of those KEY1 buttons. But I still think it's silly to charge a couple bucks and not display a full screen of titles, artist, etc. Silly.
I'll update what I learn in the next couple weeks...
