Is it true that cars with new computer crap like onstar and stuff need the wiring harness for your electronics to work properly when installing an after market stereo? or can you do it manually hook up the main things like power, ground , speakers and everything will work and save 25 bucks?

On some vehicles this is true, on other's all you will loose is the door chime. What make, model and year vehicle are you referring to ?
