Okay, i was putting my old system into my wife's 2003 Cavalier, ive installed 4 systems total, so i know my basics, but ive hit a wall this time, not so smooth of an installation. The factory cd player still gets sound when i hook it up, but when i put this Pioneer DEH-1400 in, it wont even turn on, and my amp doesnt power up either, im assuming the amp wont turn on if the cd player isnt getting power because of the remote wire (could be wrong) but yeah, ive checked teh fuses in the fuse box, in the cd player, and amp for the hell of it, all good, the fuse on my power cable for the amp is good too. PLEASE help

are you using a harness for the factory plug? If so, check the source you used for the switched lead; the factory plug doesn't have one.

the red wire from the stereo is the switched lead; power when the car is on; no power when the key is off; this is how the radio turns on and off with the key. The newer GM have a databus system that incorporates the radio; it keeps your radio on until you open a door and provides the chimes for seatbelts, headlights, keys leftin the ignition, etc. This signal is provided via a data wire; there is no switched 12v wire in that harness; you need to run a new one to either the fuse box or ingition harness.

any way you could give me some pics of this, some sort of tutorial, im always up for learning new things, and this is def. new. I would REALLY appreciate it, i can use all the help as possible, but let me get this straight, i have to run a new 12v wire, is this somthing i can get at wal-mart or do i need to go to my local radio stores, and also where would i run it to my fuse box, would that be easier than to the ignition harness, and which would you rather recommend? Is this somthing i need to solder in, or can it just be crimped in, or taped (knowing taped is the worst choice, just asking). But Thanks again for the help so far

You can get some wire at RadioShack, or AutoZone.  18 gauge will work fine.  Just run it to a wire that shows 12 volts with the key in the on position (test this with a meter).  Connect this to your new radio's red wire.

Just wanted to know if it is what i need, if so that will save me a little bit of a headache. If your not sure ill find a link to it later, i dont have the time now. but thanks again

I don't think I'm the only one that's unclear.  Is Wal-Mart carrying modules now?  If you can post a link we can tell you more about it.

It was like this, but about half the price.

it is the same thing, but is only 49.99 it said on the box, keeps gm safety and warning chimes functioning in your vehicle, issues healthy ok system status to computer, provides +12V switched power source for aftermarket stereo

so im assuming i need that, but i could be wrong.

If you don't mind losing the door chimes; and don't mind the radio going off as soon as you turn the key off, then you really don't need that unit. You'll just need to run the new switched power lead. The healthy system status to the computer is a bit misleading; there is no check in the vehicle's computer as to the status of the radio.

I personally dont care, but she flips over the smallest things, so im just trying to keep whats there and do what is needed, so i just want to know if i do get that, do i just have to hook it up, and it will get power after that, or will i still have to run a new lead?

no; that piece will read the data signal from the factory wiring and provide the proper switched lead

okay i got that piece, and isntalled it, cd player powers up, have had the system going strong for 2 days, now im getting a problem, earlier my fiance stopped to get gas, turned the car off filled up and got back in, it dinged so she would put the seat belt in, but it did not stop dinging, just kept going, so she came to where i work so i could disconnect the cd player, and it finally stopped, it dinged for about 5 min straight untill i unpluged it. Any ideas? Also, ever since we put this new HU in the antenna is real weak, i cant really get any reception, any ideas on that, or will i have to get a better adapter or actual antenna.
Once again your help is really appreciated

are you using the multi-plug adapter that has all kinds of plugs on it?  I know they sell those all-in-one units at wal-mart.  If you are; I would recommend going with one made specifically for that vehicle, a metra 40-GM10  for example.
