Hello y'all...

I've tried to build a first-order low pass filter with a 10 mHy coil to use with my 8 Ohm subwoofer.

However the sound coming out of it now is somewhat distorted and the volume dropped down big time!.

what could be the apparent reason for that?

thanks

Omri

What is the wire size in that coil - as in what gauge wire is it wound with? If the wire is small, and the DCR of the coils is quite high, this will probably be the issue. Also, make sure you are using an AIR CORE inductor. It will be physically larger with more wire in it, compared to an equally rated iron-core inductor, and the wire will have to be larger to maintain a low series resistance, BUT the audio quality of an air-cored inductor is FAR superior to iron cores...

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."
