I have a Punch 5002 amp. It is a 500watt RMS amp. I recently installed a 300 watt amp and used 8 gauge wire about 12-15 feet, I was curious if it would be alright to used the existing 8 gauge wire to power up my 500 watt amp and if not what would be possible negative outcomes. Thank you

possible negative outcomes would be lighting your car on fire if not properly fused, and even with the fuse you still have a high risk of doing it anyways...Use the Power Ground chart listed on the side bar<-------

NOoooooooo, pick up some 4 gauge atleast. you can get kits with everything off ebay, or even amazon for damn cheap. medium quality 4 gauge, is probably better than the best 8 gauge. if you plan on doing more future upgrades you should go big the first time, and get a nice distribution block, that way you can run 8 gauge to the small amp, and 4 gauge to the 500rms amp. I have a RF 501BD, and it suggests 4 gauge, even though the friend i bought them from had used 8 and it seemed to work fine, when i stuffed 2 gauge in there it worked noticibly better at high volumes.   ditch the 8 for good.

one negative that can result from too small of wire. as the demand for current rises it "forces" curent the wire cant handle cause its to small to handle the current demand. wire heats up. jacket could melt and things can go very wrong.

here is what will happen if you do that becuse i saw someones car that he did it in, he had a 8 gauge wire and had an inline fuse and what actually happend was that the fuse got so hot it melted the inline fuse holder before the fuse ever poped and almost lit his whole car on fire, so it would really be a wise decition on your part to go out and get some 4 gauge, it really is not that expensive either.

a fuse will not blow until something has grounded out.  "shorted" or if amperage draw was more than the rated amperage of the fuse.     automotive fuses are rated for 32 volts
