Does Boss Audio rate their amps accuratly?

I purchased a Boss PD-3000 to push two Memphis Power Reference 15"s. The Power Reference 15"s can handle 250w-750w RMS per sub. I heard the Power Reference 15"s on a Memphis 1500D amp and it slammed! It felt like I was underwater and my ears were going to pop. I hooked up the same subs to my PD-3000 (Which claims 1400w RMS @ 2 ohms) and it didn't even sound close to the Memphis 1500D. So I'm guessing the Boss PD-3000 only puts out like a true 600w-1000w RMS @ 1 ohm stereo. I do not believe it can take a 1 ohm mono load, but it seems to be stable on a 1 ohm stereo load. I did have it wired @ 2 ohms on the Memphis amp and the same on the PD-3000, but it didn't even come close to sounding like the Memphis amp.

Basically, I just want to know how Boss Audio rates their amps and if they are accurate or not...

Thanks,
aLeXv305

Oh I forgot, and it was a 2 ohm mono load on both amps. The PD-3000 was bridged into one channel if that helps...

Where to start?...

Is this the exact same subwoofer/box combo you heard connected to the 1500D? If not, understand that the enclosure makes the subwoofer, even *pick your favorite speaker* will sound like ass in a poorly designed/built enclosure. Check your specs. Then check them again. Then have a friend who has taken geometry check it one more time. Go back an look at the set up you heard before.

Is the wiring to your amps adequate? Is the ground DOUBLE adequate? Check all your connections. Do you have DVC subs or SVC? If DVC my guess is that you have them wired wrong (reverse polarity? wrong final impendence?).

You bought cheap speakers, makes sense you should buy a cheap amps. Depending on the enclosure, you will sound louder: with less power. I mate the JL 12w3v2 to 250-350w quality amps in a ported enclose, but have gone as high as 500w in a sealed one. The output is about the same, but the wattage is vastly different. The sound is also different, not necessarily worse with one or the other, just different. Furter, cheap speakers are also overrated in themselves, as are cheap amps. If I had to guess I would say the Memphis subs you are talking about wil handle 200-300rms well in most situations.

Also, your specs for both your amp and subs are way off. Honestly, I do not think you know what your doing. You need to do some reading, start with the manuals (with a grain of salt) and maybe some buying guides. The12volt has good sources for information, but its mostly dry reading.   I’m not trying to be a dick, but you need more knowledge and you'll get it by reading creditable sources. Good luck.

P.S. I'd bet the power specs on that amp are correct, at 15.5 volts! Check the manual and see if they tell you how the achieved the rated RMS. Should look something like 300x2RMS @15.5 volts. Reputable companies rate amps at 12.5-13.5 volts.

Boss (anything Boss) doesn't even come close to the quality of Memphis  Its a low-fi, mid-fi comparison. They are bot made over seas....but Memphis makes em a bit more "real" than boss..

That Memphis 1500D is a real workhorse.....

What i have found with cheap amp brands like boss is that to get the true rms rateing you need to cut the advertised rms rateing in half and add a few points on the distortion meter.

Even a 750 watt rms amp such as a memphis, mtx, what ever will hit harder since it will be a much cleaner sound output to the subwoofers.  You can go cheap on wires and such, but definately not electrical components, you get what you pay for.

Boss. Take the first and last letters and that is what you get. (BS). Other than that, I guess they are OK for noise.
