Hey guys, im new to the sun and speaker "hobby" for cars, and have a question. I have two 10.1 kappa perfect subs, with a rating of 350 RMS each at 4 ohm impendance. My question, what amp should i use to run them? I had a infinity 611A (i think thats what it was) but kinda blew it up. Im thinking of a ref 1211a infinity, but do you guys think i need something bigger? I pretty much want to get the full power outta my subs, so any recommendations are appreciated! Thanks guy, and i like the community!

Good to see you're enjoying the sun now!  Here's how we'd get into this... You don't want the same tragic death to befall your new and improved amp, so...what caused the previous one to "blow up"? ------------- Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

Kinda just...stopped working, Infinity claims the amp couldnt handle the power i wanted to put into the subs. So they said i needed a bigger one, so i have no clue which one. I know i want mono amp, class D, but cant decide..

whats the peak power? You might wanna try lookin @ the Jensen JPA-1300M. It won't push the subs to their full potential but it shouldn't blow the speaker, but ask someone before me cause i'm not as smart as the other people on here

Amps produce wattage, speakers require wattage to work. There is no way you can blow an amp that is not "powerful" enough for the said speakers. An amp can be damaged by other factors, but a 10 watt amp to a 1000 watt speaker will not be a problem. Perhaps you misunderstood Infinity, or they are sleazy sales people. Perhaps your gains were too high, and you were trying to compensate for the lack of volume by pinning the gains. stevdart brought up a good point that needs to be adressed first. Peak wattage on speakers and amps needs to be ignored, rms numbers are the real numbers that need to be considered. -------------

Im looking at RMS when looking for an amp..I just want one that will meet the RMS of 350 watts per channel. And about the amp being blown, i maybe misunderstood, but my understanding is i asked the amp to do to much. Turned it up to high, to long, and lots of clipping later im looking for a new amp. Anyways, what can u guys recommend me for an amp to run these two things?

i have had good luck with sony amps, very good quality for the price. in my truck i run a XM2200GTX with 2 10.1's, plenty loud enough for me, no clipping.

im thinking of going with the infinity 1211a. it will provide more then enough RMS to each sub, to much maybe but it shouldnt be a problem with the remote...and if i blow em, well i wanted to go to 12's anways, lol

the 1211's are nice, and it'll give more then enough for your 10's, you might even be able to cut back on the gain so your not pushing your amp as hard and it wont let out the magic smoke.
