Ok, this is really basic - but i was just pondering:

When you use a 450w 4ohm DVC sub and wire it in parallel down to 2 ohm does the wattage change?
  Most subs are rated per coil right?

subs are rated per coil. lets say you have a 400 w rms sub its typically 200 w rms per coil. and no the wattage does not change for the sub droping from 4 to 2 ohms.

so now that it is in parallel it will take 450w total, or per coil?

Hi, with a DVC sub you are in fact putting seperate power to each coil, so if the sub has an RMS ratting of 500 watts, then you would want to put 250 to each coil, and that only becomes an issue if you zre using more than 1 amp to power the sub(s). it all depends on what kind of sub it is, and how much power it can take, but all in all, if it's rated at 500, or the max is 500, or you wanted to put 500 watts into it total, then it's 250 per coil.

Now was far as wiring goes, generally the benefit of having a DVC sub over a SVC version is the flexibility in wiring options, to get the most stable power out of your amp.nothing more, nothing less. if you amp is 500W stable at 2 ohm, and your only option is to wire the sub in a 4 ohm config, you are only getting roughly half the power that amp can give your subs, but with a DVC sub, you could wire it down to 2 ohms, and get the full power out of your amp...

What I was saying is that if a DVC sub is rated at 500 watts, and you are putting 500 watts into from the amp, at whatever ohms, it's 250 per coil, but for some reason the author of this post doesn't like to read, and doesn't want to listen to everyone telling him that is it's rated wattage is for the sub as a whole for lack of a better way of saying it, and not per coil...

there is more information on this subject that I think everyone would ever want to read, let alone on this site alone.....  possibly a better option would be to understand what makes a DVC sub different from a SVC sub, and what the power requirements mean opposed to just asking and accepting what people say as 100% accurate....
