upgrade from factory

I am trying to put together a system for my son's p-up for Christmas & I need some advice. I bought him a Pioneer 200 watt reciever and 2 sets of 600 watt Infinity speakers. Wattage wise will this combination go good together? I am not adding a sub-woofer until later, only if needed. Thanks.

First of all, "in my opinion" any manufacturer of head units that proclaims to be able to put out 200 watts (of usable clean power) is a crime. (And I am not singling out just JVC only, so, MR. CEO and your attorney can just sit back down!)(Refer to US Code - Title 15 > Chapter 2 > Subchapter I > Sec. 52 - Dessemination of false advertisements)

I still can't believe that after all these years, that the FTC is still allowing manufacturers to make these (allegedly deceptive) claims. (Before someone decides to sue me for this statement, I am referring to the use of "power output specs" in the form of a distortion levels below 1 to 3% THD [Total Harmonic Distortion]).

But enough of my griping.

Other than that, the JVC is a nice unit, from what I can see and should work fine for your son. However, I would recommend purchasing an amplifier to drive the Infinity's. If you try to drive the Infinity's with the Head Unit, you are taking a chance of blowing them out, since any kind of distortion from any Head Unit will fry the voice coils, possibly resulting in the voice coils shorting out, which, in turn will burn out the amp section of your head unit.

Get an outboard amp.
