If I decide to make a custom set of component speakers like a 4 inch mid and a 1" tweeter, do they both need to have the same power handling? Like can I use a 30w rms tweeter and a 60w rms mid? If I use them in a crossover network would they both be getting the same amount of power?

Im confused...

If I push 100w rms into the set of speakers would it be divided by the two and only give 50w rms for each driver?

No, with a properly designed crossover (or crossover settings in a biamp setup) a tweeter only needs to handle about 10% of the total system power.  In a 100 watt system, the tweeter will never see more than about 10-12 watts.

alexv305:

Try reading the sticky at the top of the forum "Advanced front speaker systems"

Very informative stuff.

You'd need to get really serious about your equipment choices before you'd make a route like that more advantageous than any given retail componet set however.. particularly with a 4" midrange..
