I bought a set of Alpine speakers to replace the crappys stock ones. I am now in need of a amp to run them. The RMS of the speakers are 70W with a peak of 350W. Should the amp I buy have a RMS close to or over what the speakers are?

i may be wrong but i'm pretty sure you want the amp to be @ the rms power. Correct me if i'm wrong, that's just what i've always thought. an amp that would probably be good for those would be the Pioneer GM-X372

You can get an amp in the 60-75 watts rms range and you will be happy.

Should have checked out https://www.hookedontronics.com/ since they have the exact same amp for 254 dollars. That's where I got my head unit from, and they were quick and prompt for delivery too.

Ive looked at both places. I live in Orlando and they arent too far from me. Are they a place I can walk in or are they internet only ? I tried that price match thing and they told me that they are too far away to be considered a competitor.

i'd tell them to lick my ***. if a business wanted your business then they would match (if thats there policy).

like i just bought a 4 channel 20ft rca.. at one end it has Blue, Green,White, Red little dots on the rca connectors.. then other end has White,Blue, and two red's.. it really isnt hard to figure out which ones are which but come on now.. where is the quality. so i am gonna go back to my buddies shop and see what he says.

Usually, you can find the amp's actual power output on its birth certificate.

Couple of quick points. Alpine cheats a little bit on the rating card that comes with V12 amps, they rate @ 1000hz only. Second if you buy this amp from an online dealer other then Crutchfield there is no factory warranty, even if the seller says there is.

absolutely not, i had a full set of type-r speakers in my last car, id rather use the type-s i think they have a stronger midbass where the r's sounded too thin. look at JL's VR line of speakers before you buy the type-r's...they are in the same price range and sound 10 times better imo

Here is another question .... if the RMS of the speakers are 75Watt and the RMS of the amp is 50Watt Will that cause me to max out the amp to power the speakers only 75% ?

The differance between 50 and 75 watts RMS in this case will be minimal, maybe 1 db of volume.

wouldnt that hurt the amp?

Pretty much the opposite. If you did run the 50 watt RMS amp at 75 watts it wiill do it but with a very high distortion number. The tweeter would be the first to go.
