Okay- here's my problem... i have a '91 Grand Am. My factory wires were pulling out of the plugs. So I had to go buy a new harness- and the colors are different than my factory wires. I re-wired all of the wires to the same wires that were cut from my original plug.... atleast i think. I also went to wiring diagram for my year/make/model. i matched everything up. Only thing- I don't have a pink factory wire. I have two dark grey wires... Anyhow- after connecting everything- I plug the connecter plugs together for my cd player- and NOTHING. The power light does light up-but nothing else. No sound- nothing. But when I reconnect my factory tape player- It works just like before i re-wired. Which wasnt good either. The tape player only plays cassettes, therefore, no radio. Also- no lights come on the tape player- so i can not see what time it is. Also- before lights went out- i had no memory. my clock would go back to 12:00 after re-starting. Do i need to re-wire some of these factory wires or what? I'm so confused. I have a cd player and an xm sattelite sitting in the box while im listening to old cassette tapes. I'm thinking I'm going to have to get deep into my car and re-wire the memory and I'm sure some others. Can anybody help me by letting me know if i'm on the right track- or what. I'm trying to avoid the money it cost for a PRO to put it in .

Have a look around the fuse boxes for your car. If your stereo keeps no memory, you probably have a blown fuse.

i havent tried that yet- but do think that would cause my new cd player to not even turn on. when i re inmstall the factory tape player- it comes on but only plays cassettes. it will not even go to radio. any other suggestions? did i explain my problem good enough in the original post?

Yup, that's what it sounds like to me. The factory unit probably only uses the constant lead for memory, and is actually powered through the switched lead. ------------- My ex once told me I have a perfect face for radio.

Thank you so much for your knowledge . i'm gonna check it in the morning. It totally makes sense to me after hearing you say the factory radio and the memory wire. I'll let you know if i get it.

ok....i checked out my fuse box- what am i looking for? I'm assuming the battery and ignition, right? If so- I have 2 ign. fuses. One is a regular fuse and there is already a good one in it. The other is labeled IGN and there is no fuse in it. And it looks like its a 1 prong fuse. Is that correct? And then- theres the battery fuse. Again- it is empty with another 1 prong fuse needed. Are these the fuses I need to get my cd player going? If anyone is wondering why I'm asking about fuses and stereo installation.....Im a girl. Does that explain? lol Thank you for all the help so far... I feel Im almost there.

It's good to hear you got it working. I don't know what rating fuse you used, but it may tell you in the owner's manual. It's probably a 10 amp. ------------- My ex once told me I have a perfect face for radio.

I'm pretty sure i put a 10amp in. That or a 15. I'll keep my eye on it so it doesn't catch on fire.....that would suck. Another question... My boyfriends cd players screen is all messed up... Is there a way of fixing that? Or is it toast? You can't read what station its on. It shows 88:88..... It works well and everything, but if there's a way of fixing it- we'd like to fix it. I figured you were the person to ask Thanks again for your time and wisdom.

I bet it's got a bad microprocessor inside. You could tell him to send it off to get fixed if it's still under warranty. If it's not, I would recommend replacing it- now's a good time to upgrade.
