i want to shave my factory antenna, but i still want to be able to pick up local AM signals.  is there some way i can do this without giving up my AM reception?  plus any FM reception i would get would be gravey....

Go for it and see what happens.  If you radio reception is unacceptable, you can always install a short aftermarket antenna.

Just try whatever you are going to use in place of the antenna before you shave. If it acceptable then you are set. I would recommend using a Metra 44-UA200 amplified glass mount antenna.

Car antenna's are optimized for FM reception. If you reduce the length of the antenna mast you will degrade the AM reception. I would second the recommendation that AUEX made. Use another hidden style antenna.

if you dont want a glass mount, get a short antenna and hide it behind the a-pillar, wont be seen but you'll still have an antenna
