I am upgrading the stereo system of a 1999 miata. I removed all of the bose system hardware. The bose amp was removed.

Question:
1. I am using a Pioneer DEH7700 for a head unit, what/where do I connect so that when I use the FM radio on the new HU the
antenna will automatically go up

2. Since I’m installing a new stereo system, is there still use for the audio relay?
3. Is the audio relay - controls the automatic up and down of the stock antenna?

in the amps harness there will be an ignition wire(12 volts when the key is on) and a power antenna wire. connect them and the antenna will go up when you turn the car on and go down when you turn it off

Is there a connection that the antenna will only go up, if I listen to the radio.

With the stock stereo (Bose) the antenna went up when I was listening to the radio, and it went down if I was playing the CD.

I am in the process of upgrading the stock stereo with a pioneer DEH-P7700MP

Just use a wiring harness and it will make your job simpler.  Remember that many Mazda's use a negative trigger for the power antenna, so you may need to use a relay to convert the polarity.
