Are you asking if the 2000x1 into 1-ohm is a real 2000 watts or is it more like a Pyle 2000 watts?

If that is your question I'm not sure anyone here could answer that for sure .... maybe Blowntweeters will know... try a multimeter if you really want to know for sure...

My inclination is to tell you that the newer Soundstream gear is quite solid and competitive for the price.. Particularly considering thier parent company... I'd be suprised if that amp wasn't what it was advertised as.

Man forbidden those pictures made me bug out.

That was you with the "^^^^HAHAHAHA" response under it? That was pretty much my reaction.

Like... I'm not sure if I should be spending more money on gear or less.posted_image

Does this article relate to the PCA2000D....I just bought a PCA2000D and I need to know if it puts out a true 2000w rms @ 1 ohm mono or if it really is a Lanzar with a different face. Please help me with this...I am so angry!!

Yes it has the same board but it depends what u put on them! sound stream uses a much better final drive than the lanzars. same board much different components on them.

Ok guys, I have made a couple of posts and I haven't recieved an answer about the Soundstream PCA2000D? All I have asked was if its power ratings were accurate and correct. People keep giving me links to other topics that just say the OPTI4000D by Lanzar has the same board as the Soundstream XXX-6500. That really doesn't help me. I just need to know if the PCA2000D really puts out 2000w rms @ 1 ohm. Its nothing, but a simple question. I would highly appriciate it if somebody could just answer this for me.

Thanks,
aLeXv305

It looks like you already own the amp. If this is the case, you can figure the wattage with a meter. You can apply some forumlas.

What difference would it make if the amp only produced less than 2000 watts?

A digital multi meter like this https://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product.do?BV_UseBVCookie=Yes&vertical=TOOL&pid=03482324000

This meter will not meausure the wattage, but you can use a forumla with it to do so. Search here for the formula.

Why are you so curious about the wattage on this amp? Even if it is below 2000 watts by a few hundred it won't make a difference.

Becasue the difference between 1000 watts and 2000 watts into the same loudspeaker is about +3db  (assuming the loudspeaker can handle the power, and assuming other effects like power compression, etc. are not considered.)

I will be powering two subwoofers. Both handle 750 RMS each. Thats why this is so important

So what will the difference be now??

The difference between what?

If your speakers are rated at 750 watts each, then that means you should use any amplifier up to 750 watts each.

And no, I do not believe your Soundstream amplifier will produce a genuine 2000 watts @ 1 ohm, unless you don't care about it being at 25% distortion.  But with reasonable distortion numbers, no.  And by the way, what's your fuse size for that amp?

The amp doesnt have a built in fuse. I have it fused on the distribution block with a 150A fuse. So if you think it wont put out 2000w rms then what do you think it will put out in reasonable terms?

Then assuming about 80% Class D efficiency and 14.4 volts from your alternator that maxes out at 1728 watts capability.  You do have a high-output alternator capable of sustaining 150 amps, right?

Yes I do I have a 235A alternator

Too make this short and simple. I am just trying to figure out how to calculate the amplifiers total rms output at 12 volts with its 75% efficientcy rating.. If you can demonstrate an equation that would be great

Sure.  Ohm's Law (see link to the left) is a basic fact everyone dealing with car audio should know by heart.  It states that Power (watts) = voltage times current flow.  So, if your fuse is rated at 150 amps, that would be the max the amp could draw before the fuse blows.  12V X 150a = 1800 watts.  This is the max on the INPUT side of the amplifier.  If it has 75% efficiency, the max it could possibly output is 1800 X 0.75 = 1350 watts. That would be MAX, by the way, not RMS.

The amp manual says 4000w peak power output and 2000w RMS @ 1 ohm mono if that helps any...

Well my friend, it's called Ohm's "LAW" because it is always true and you can't get around it.  For any amplifier to generate 4000 watts peak output using your 75% efficiency and 12 volt nominal numbers, would require an instantaneous current draw of 444.444 amps.  Might blow your 150 amp fuse, eh?  Also, to sustain 2KW RMS output would require about 222 amps continuous current draw.  Also toasts your fuse.  If the amplifier is really capable of that kind of output, which like I said I highly doubt, then you'll need to supply it appropriately.

Cheers.

Ok if an amplifier company rates their Class D amp at  2000w rms @ 1 ohm mono what would be its total real output in watts? Class D is 70% efficent so does this mean 2000 x 70% = 1400? So basically it only puts out a true 1400w rms?

Am I correct? I need help on making calculations.

Also if this is correct do all amp companies do this?

No, if the amp is 70% efficient, this means that only 70% of the amperes fed into the amp is turned into the signal going to the sub.  The other 30% is converted to heat in the amplifier.

The amp companies rate the actual output (watts at x-amount of volts), so the efficiency has nothing to do with the wattage coming out of the amp.

Yes, exactly.  But

sort of contradicts itself in this way: the efficiency rating determines how much current the amp must draw in order to achieve the rated output.  This is limited by the physical capabilities of the components used in the amplifier, especially the current capacity of the power supply and power rails.  So if an amplifier is 70% efficient it must use larger components capable of higher current flow to generate its output than one that is, say, 80% efficient.

I am having trouble understanding the rule of decibels.

If I have a 2000w RMS subwoofer and I feed it 1000w RMS, then it wouldn't be a whole lot louder if I fed it 2000w RMS. It would only be +3dB louder. What about powering teo subwoofers? Both handle 750w RMS. Would they be almost as loud with only half the power?

Can someone explain this to me?

PLEASE check out the Basic Car Audio and Electronics website, and study it, know it, live it... VERY good website, with really helpful illustrations as well...
