Overheating? short? could be one of a million things. look at the BIg 3. Maybe your alternator cant get enough power to the amp.

give alittle more info like brands and specs.

Start with your ground for the amp. Where is it? Also what amp and subs?

A short would likely cause it to go in to protection right away.

I agree though that the big three would be the way to go either way, and with more info on the amp size, an alternator may be in your future.

Heat, Ground, battery condition......alternator output. ( it takes power to make power ) IN SHORT....THE BIG 3.....

The subs .....whats the load on the amp? Is it capable of putting out what your asking it to do?

The most common sources of these symptoms would be either improper impedence or incorrect gain control setting.  How are your speakers wired to the amp (ohm load- stereo/mono) and how is the amp rated per channel/mono?  You may have a bad spot in one of the voice coils- push the cones in/out with your hand while trying to measure a short.  How did you set the gain controls?  If you're not sure, do a search in here to find out how.

Ground/ low voltage will usually not send an amp into protect, rather the sound may simply cut out for a bit.

I say re-check your amp installation. Check the impedance on your subs too.

sorry for the lack of specs.

i got a hifonics bx1500D, and 2 15" audiobahn subs. optima red top. stock alt. stinger wiring.
none of the hookups are the prob i got a meter and its getting plenty of power and a good ground.
im pretty sure my subs are wired for 1ohm operation.posted_image

but when i opened the amp case there was a small burn mark on the case??

let me know what you guys think. thanks

There's no need for the jumper wires that run from one sub to the other- remove them.  Have you checked the impedences?  Is your amp still under warranty?

As stated above, one or a combination of the following is happening:

1) the gain is too high.  How did you set it?

2) the amplifier is overloading the car's electrical system and your voltage is dropping too low.  Do you have a volt meter?  What is the voltage at the amp when it goes into protect?  If it drops too low (usually about 10.5 volts) the amp will go into protect, and if so you'll need a high output alternator.

3)  The power cabling or ground connection is inadequate, causing the voltage to drop low enough to shut down the amp as above.

4) There is an electrical problem in one of the speakers, in the amp, or in the wiring.  That diagram is wrong, by the way.

i know for sure its not the alt or bat but here it is again. optima red top and stock alt. not the alt because it was supplying power just fine for like 2 days. does not work at low volumes. doesnt even turn on. it turns on then goes into protect RIGHT away

Bad amp or bad speaker(s) or bad speaker wire.  Did you try any of the suggested troubleshooting ideas already given you in this thread?

if that diagram is correct that you drew than chances are you cause the amp to fry and will happen again if you hook up another amp that way.

Your amplifier is mono, which means it has ONE output.  The fact that it has multiple connection points is for convenience only.  You do not need to use them all.  Same for your speakers, they are DVC and if the manufacturer decided to add extra terminals, they mean nothing.  I am sure the owner's manuals for your gear tells you this.  Wire it as in the diagram if you want a 1-ohm load.
