I have a customer with a ferrari 355 spider. He is looking to get some bass into the car . Has anyone had any experience of installing into one of these?

I havent seen the car yet so i dont even know what it has from the factory.

Gav.

I've never worked on it but I have ridden in my boss's 360 hard top.  Not much room in there.  The factory sound system is quite good sounding, though, and if there's not a little factory sub hidden away somewhere, they used mains with pretty good bass extension.  You might ask your client if they need to maintain use of the very small "trunk" space in the front boot of the car, as a decent sub enclosure could be fabricated to fit up there.

I have a little experience with Ferrari's and Maserati's. For example in a 360 we flushed in a Brax 4 channel in the front liggage comp with factory Ferrari carpet, used some Rainbow pro-fi Kicks, that are aimed more towards mid-bass. Unfortunately the 355 doesn't have the sub console like the 360, this is where we incorporated some Focal 5" subs. We sealed the prexisitng enclosure and bridged the last two channels of the amp. It produced pleasing results.

There are other options aside from a sub. Aura bass shakers aren't too bad and the Max bass processing unit can yield ok results, I am not a huge fan of it becasue it is simply a band aid.

I wouldn't recommend a sub in the luggage compartment, just the amp and x-overs (although in previous cars we put them in the door panels).  I would think there would be little gained from placing the sub in the luggage compartment.

Thanks, i was thinking the same with regards to the luggage compartment idea. I did see an install where an 8inch sub enclosure was built into the passengers kickwell. It looks like it might be an option.

Does anyone know what size the front speakers are in a 355?

Also, any ideas who makes the shallowest depth 10inch sub?

I seen some blaupunkt subs at a car show that were flat and only like 3 inches deep. I dont know if they're selling them yet but they looked like a serious option for small spaces. I think they had 10s and 12s at the show but they might make smaller ones.

just found out that earthquake also do a range of shallow depth subs. 6.5" up to 15" details here: https://www.earthquakesound.com/SWS04.htm

They look the business. Just need to see if there is a uk distributor now.

I have heard bad things about those Earthquakes. Phase Aliante is a sweet shallow mount sub, so I've heard. And they are a German based company

Unfortunately :)

I would put a JL Audio 8WO in the passenger foot well. Cover it with the carpet and build a small enclosure that is slanted at the same angle as the floor pan.
