hi, i have got 4-way , 500watt per speaker 6by9's. make : newstar. one of the speakers somehow have gone flat i can hear the music which is the treble but there is no bass. however if i press on the rubber seals then there is bass pumping but when it plays itself the bass pumps very low and it makes a flapping noise. can anyone help me on this?

Sounds like they could be blown. Take them out and test them on a bench.

only 1 of the speaker is flat but the other 1 is ok. how shall i test them?

If you push on the cone and the speaker starts to work, the speaker is toast. No offence intended, but the speakers appear from the outset to be bargain basement flea market variety. Replace the speakers. ------------- Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.

no mate. its like this, the speaker is working but when it plays the bass it produces flapping noise. but when i press on the rubber seals then u have bass pumping. i think the connection to the head unit is loose, probably not enough power is going through.

You're describing a symptom of either a partially blown voice coil or a seperated surround. Bad speaker. ------------- Support the12volt.com

It has nothing to do with not enough power nor the connection to the head unit. This is a internal failure of the voice coil. If the voice coil is shorting out on something when it is at rest, it may work and produce distorted output or may not work at all. If you press on one side of the speaker and magically it sounds fine, the voice coils may no longer be shorting out. One way or the other, the speaker is toast by the sounds of it. Plug that speaker into the other sides wires, it the problem continues it is indeed a bad speaker. It may have come that way or you may have fried the coils in it, no matter what though, it sounds like it has had it's day in the sun.

cool. i think tomorrow i will try and alter the wirings at the back of the head unit and if that does not solve the problem. could i fix the speaker if the voice coil is blown? ------------- kundi

Do not waste your time at the head unit. If the tweeters and mid are working fine in the bad speaker then the problem does not lie in the headunit or any type of wiring, it lies internally in the speaker. No you cannot fix this speaker with any great ease let alone find the right parts necessary to fix it.

right so whats the best thing to do now that ive only got 1 speaker properly working? could i sellotape the rubber seal down so it works fine? ------------- kundi

The best thing to do is pull out both speakers and purchase a new set. ------------- Support the12volt.com
