I have just bought a 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan 2 weeks ago from a family member for the Mrs.  Plus I have recently bought a new Stereo head for the car (Pioneer DEH-P47DH) I got the wiring harnest, but the wires were already pulled from the sockets of its factory slots. I have no clue which wires are which, even after checking out the color code from 12volt. The stereo doesn't turn on, the lights on the dash doesn't even turn on, and powerlocks are down after removing the deck. I would just like to know if the wire connections listed on this site are correct or if there is a solution to all this.

I'll be happy to put more info also.

Yes check your fuses and ground.  If you have a white wire, that's for the factory amp, and needs to be connected to the blue/white of your new stereo.

I don't have a white wire, but i have an oversized long Metal Wire. Would that be the Factory Ground for the orginal Deck or is that the amp? My ground is the blk wire and yes its grounded. I have yet to check the fuses which i'll do right now.

Yes, the metal braid is the ground.

Fuses are intact, and the dimmer isn't working either. Well of course the dimmer isn't going to work if the lights in the dash doesn't even come on

Did you look under the hood as well?  Did you use a meter to test the fuses?  Did you check the fuse on the back of the new radio?

At any rate, if nothing else works, you can rewire.  You can get constant and accessory at the ignition harness (fuse these), and ground directly to the metal behind the dash.  Test the speaker wires with a meter on resistance, and "pop" them with a battery.

yea i did the Test with the battery, and they did pop. The only fuses I checked were the ones under the hood and the one that came with the radio. I didn't have an ohm meter so I couldn't test for sure but check if they were burnt or cracked.

I grounded the deck to the Edge of the inner walls that holds the deck in place. The connection can't be bad, since i sanded the surface and screwed it in. Does anyone kno what the Pure Orange Wire is? I belived it was in the gray wire socket holder after comparing 2 of the same model vans.

Okay, you checked the fuses under the hood, check the one's inside as well- somewhere under the dash on the driver's side.  You might check your owner's manual.

I'm unable to turn up an orange wire listed anywhere.

maybe.. its the dimmer controls?

I bought this car used so it didn't come with a manual. I see notthing under the the desk or passenger side unless I would have to unscrew the whole panel off, which is a pretty big pannel. The screws are also plastic so i wouldn't want to toy with them.

I don't remember for sure.  Maybe someone else does.  Check on the outside of the dash, with the door open.

yea i found it, took me awhile but it was right underneath the dirver side. The fuses there are ok also, none of em burnt or cracked. Could this be a faulty wire'n? What is driving me nuts is that it all worked b4 I removed the deck.

Who knows- I say your best bet is to run new power from the ignition harness and call it good.

... boy o boy, thats what i get for buying cheap from family. Any idea on price range and how hard this is?

Price range- are you asking how much a shop would charge?  It would depend on where you go and what all you have them do.  You could just have them run a constant and accessory lead (you should have the rest already- ground and speakers).  Then just have them tape off the ends so they don't touch anything and zip tie them in place so they don't fall back in the dash.  Another option would be to have them do all the wiring- or you could have someone do the complete install.  It's up to you.

I reread one of your posts- you said you're grounded to the edge of the inner walls that holds the deck in.  It sounds like your grounded to nothing- the metal cage that holds the radio in place- but this is supported by the plastic kit, and is not grounded.  If you're unsure what to do about ground- you may actually have power to both wires- you can do what is suggested here: https://www.installdr.com/Harnesses/DCP-Wiring.pdf.  Did you plug in the antenna?  That would give you a ground to test and see if it will turn on.

yea the antenna is pluged in everytime. Then I would switch on the acc or start up the car, still no good. I moved it to the far back of the dask where its all metal and where everything else seems to be grounded on also.

I would like to know the price of the part itself, but if all comes to worst I could take it to the shop and just have them wire the whole thing over again.

I'm confused- the price of what part- wire?  It sounds like you need a rewire, not a "part".

i though you ment I had to buy a part. Re-wire.... god, I don't have the time for that. I guess i could let some car audio store do it then.
