oh yeah can u tell me what RMS stands for?
say i had two subs whose RMS totaled to 600 RMS combined...
should i try to get an amp lower or higher then that RMS
or an amp that puts out 600 RMS?

hey i have been looking around and i found a set up that is pretty good from what im reading...but then again i am new to sound systems so i want a few peoples opinion. i want to make sure all the RMS and ohm will work together properly and put as little stress on the amp and subs as possible... my set up is : Phoenix Gold Xenon X600.1 (600 RMS x 1 channel @ (1-4ohm)) two 12" alpine type s subwoofers (300 rms each, DVC 2ohm)
the rest doesn't matter i know the wires and enclosure will work but i want to make sure that the amp produces enough power to the subs to make them loud without having to worry about blowing them at a reasonable volume ... (not going to crank my music so people in iraq can hear it) im not buying it for them so they can't listen

RMS = root mean square, but you don't have to know that- just know it's basically the amount of power a speaker can continuously accept, or how much power an amp can continuously put out. Many people recommended to try to match the speaker's RMS to the amp's RMS. Some people say err on the side of the speaker's RMS (higher speaker RMS), others say err on the side of the amp's RMS. I like to err on the side of the speaker's RMS- less chance of destroying the speaker. What you have listed above seems a good setup. Go for it. Let us know how it turns out. ------------- My ex once told me I have a perfect face for radio.

Sorry, bad choice of wording- not really an error. If you cannot get them to match, some people like to choose an amp with a higher RMS. I like to choose a speaker with a higher RMS.

I am a BFI fan, but that's just me... LOL
(Brute Foce and Ignorance - BEAT that speaker into submission!)
Last year's ratings:
2000 watts
This year's ratings:
1900 watts
Eclipse tech's ratings:
2700 watts
All into a single Eclipse Ti 12. However you look at it, it's a lot of power, and I do not recommend it, but there ARE two schools of thought!
------------- It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

None of the above, I think it was an example that people some times proivde more power rather than less. He (haem) also has some wierd affliction for Eclipse, go figure -------------
