Hi,

I am new to this forum specifically to get some input on a 5.1 surround. I did a search and wanted to reply but it says the topic is closed.

I have a 2006 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab and want to have a 5.1 surround since I have a lot of concert DVD's which have DTS. I would like to listen to them in the truck without any video since I don't think it is safe for the driver to have video.

At first, I had a shop estimate changing the whole stock audio system with a dvd-player and some speakers which amounted to $500 less than a complete 5.1 surround of which I then tried to justify to go with the 5.1 surround, after I get some feedback on some experts on this forum.

I read about the Alpine $2000 5.1 system and is it worth the money? I really do enjoy the DTS/5.1 in my home theater and would like to enjoy the same DVD's while driving.

Any input/feedback/advise/suggestions will be much appreciated. Any suggestions as to installers in Las Vegas?

Thank you.

The shop you went to to get your 5.1 system was either blowin smoke or was some hole in the wall place.  The alpine system for 2000 dollars sounds like a pretty good deal.  Basically, I think you should do a little more research into how expensive and extensive you want to get with this system.  If your looking for a good source unit though I would go with the alpine 9860 or 9965, jvc dv5100 or the panasonic D5501U.

Hi alpinejedi,

Well, I looked at the Alpine Catalog and in their 5.1 surround system chart which had the 9860, I then priced each one of the components by doing internet search and the parts came out to be around $1600 that is without labor and materials..so $2,000+ might be reasonable.

But what I am asking is, how different is the sound compared to non 5.1 system assuming you have the same speakers and sub...

Thanks
