CircuitCity Sony box, sub, and amp combo

I recently had a sony head unit and a xm 2200 gtx amp powering some poineer premiers. This setup up was stolen and now i'm looking for a replacement system. I saw on the circuit city website they have the sony amp, subs, and box for 279. I'm a bit skeptical about their speakers seeing how their not dual voice coil and the magnets really aren't that big. Has anyone out there had,have, or heard sonys subwoofers, the 12" model more importantly? If so please share your expirence with them, i would like to know what they are like before purchasing them.

That is not in any way a good way to judge a speaker. Voice coil configurations on speakers simply has to do with system flexibility. Magnet size will not determine how loud or how good a speaker is. There are many speakers that have very small magnets but are excellent sounding and can get plenty loud. What the magnet is made of is more important than its size.

Now for the sony stuff, I wouldn't touch it. But you may find it fits your needs in way or the other. I KNOW there is much better gear to be had at similar prices. Sony just isn't what it used to be.

Ok what products do you know of in the same price range? I previously had Pioneer TS-W126C/DVC (400 watts rms). So i'm looking for something around that range without having to spend 320 bucks for just the speakers.

Well, if you liked the pioneer's you had previously why not look at some more?

MTX, Kicker, Infinity (plenty more, just some that CC carries come to mind) all offer good products that will meet your budget. Some times you can find them on sale as well. I suggest you go and have a listen to some of these mentioned companies.  

fleabay can some times have great deals on products, but almost always you will not have a factory warranty. I would never buy (used) speakers from some one I didn't know. Used electronics are little less risky. But there are always refurbs that are pawned off as new. I 'd be pissed if that happened to me.

So I would try to avoid ebay unless you are looking for a specialty item, go to the real stereo shops, pay a little extra that will go much furhter in the long run.

Too bad you didn't ask earlier, I just sold two MTX 7500's 12" for less than $90 on ebay. 

I see your point. I'll just have to do without bass for a while and save up. Whatever i get i'm going to have to mount it down with something other than regular screws. That didn't seem to stop the thieves. But anyway thanks for all of your help, it was much appreciated.
