hey, I am building a new box for my blazer and I need info about diwnfiring. I vaugly remember a website where you could put in xmax, qts, vas, whatever was needed to see if the speaker was suitable for downfiring. I was wondering if anyone knew where that site was again. And experiences about downfiring, whether they liked it or not. Thanks alot. Probablyyyyy a Eclipse Titanium 12".

You want to hide a Titanium by using the downfiring method? She's pretty! ...and may be offended if you don't let her show her face. And I've heard she likes a lot of power.

I have one, I am pushing a 12" with a JBL BP1200.1 It is wired in parallel and down to 1.9ohms. This is a little over 1200watts. She does love it! And yes, she is pretty! What makes one sub better suited for downfiring than another? And what are distinct advantages of downfiring? -------------

Gravity sag. Some of the T/S parameters that tell of a speakers suspension and xmax (among others) are used to calculate how gravity will cause the cone to sag. 5% of excursion is the limit. Anything above that may result in poor performance. Benefits: stealth installation, cosmetics (if you don't want to see the speaker), and possibly might fit some situations better than side-firing would. More often used in home audio for a "furniture" look. ------------- Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

Makes sense to me. Will it affect responsiveness? A guy at a speaker shop convinced my friend that it would keep his trunk from rattling -------------

my vehicle got broken into and they stole my old setup, shattered the window and all that. and yes, they look beautiful. but i am now worried about theft and would rather someone see a big box with nothing on it in my trunk that is built in and fabbed around all the contours with a downfiring sub, than a sub and say hey that looks good...
pissed me off, and also sucks cause building downfiring boxes is alot more difficult, especially the design i have in mind.
