Hey everyone. I'm wondering if the Cerwin Vega V-Max subs that are in my trunk would hit louder/harder in a sealed or vented box? Right now they are in a big sealed box...should I risk the money on a vented one? I know that I would lose SQ by leaving the sealed box...but I love that hard hitting bass. Anyone have any expierience with these subs? Thanx.

What size subs? You say "a big sealed box". The 12's need 1.0 cubic feet per sub in a sealed box, 2.6 in a ported box. Make sure the box has the right air space.

They are the 12's. When we put the subs in, we got a pre-fab box that was as close as we could get to the factory specs for these subs. It hits plenty hard, don't get me wrong, its just that I've heard good things about vented boxes hitting harder than sealed boxes, but with a sacrifice in sound quality.

i have had problems with there subs blowning when they r not in a ported box.

Why don't you invest a little time in a properly tuned ported enclosure.
Design one in WinISD.. you could prolly find a 2.5ish cft box that has a 30-hz or so tune... I think you would actually find the sound quality enchanced... the result would be significant low end extention, and if you keep your bloody paws off the gain knob, you'll find a much flatter response curve frequently far overcomes whatever miniscule losses in 50 - 80hz transitory sound..
Ported boxes sound great man .. anyone that says they don't doesn't know to design one.

that is true. if you do a ported box right you can get a all around gain from it in sq and spl. that is if you do it right.
