I'm helping one of my buddies build a system for his 2002 Oldsmobile Bravada, and need some suggestions for a nice sub.
The setup is going to be pretty SQ oriented, but I want to be able to go with a single 12" sub that'll pound.
The HU will probably be an Eclipse CD5435.
The speakers will be a set of Boston Acoustics SL60's powered off of an Orion 4004 4 channel amp.
Then probably some Boston Acoustics S65RC for the rear doors.
Now, for the sub...
The first thing that came to mind was an Infinity Kappa Perfect. But I don't think a single Perfect would be able to produce quite the loudness we're looking for.
So my next thought was to put a single 12" Alpine Type R in a well made ported box. The Type R has to be one of my favorite subs of all time. It's really amazing for the price.
So, do you guys have any other suggestions for the sub?
Probably a 12" that's not too spendy (<$350) that'll provide very good sq, and still be able to produce some chest pounding bass when given the right box and amp.

Out of those two subs, the perfects will get much louder in a properly built ported box.

Don't forget Resonant Engineering - for that money, you can get into an SX12 - which will certainly out-wang anything Alpine has ever made - and sound pretty good doing it. ;) For a LOT less money, consider a pair of RE12's - don't need much power to get them going and sound excellent. I've got 6 x RE10's in my street beater right now with 1300 wrms and it holds 145's on the TL all day long with MUSIC :) bmoney
