i was browsing through some used merchandise at a local stereo shop which was closing and found this amp. the owner says that i could have it for $40 cause he could never sell it cause no one knew what it was. I google searched and got no results and was hoping some of the knowledgeable posters on here could help me out since i am at a dead end. heres what it says on the amp
AMPEX model AX680CA 4ch mosfet power 2-ohm stable 1500watts max
the amp itself looks pretty solid and weighs about 14 pounds with a heavy steel heatsink. it has 2 sets of adjustable HPF and LPF and two gain control settings along with 2 20 amp fuses. By the way the amp says made in Korea
Thanks in advance for any advice you guys can give
Ampex made a few consumer electronics products in the 1980's so it is possible it is one of their designs. Is there a date on it? If it's after about 1988, it is NOT Ampex but from some company ripping off the name. Since it is undoubtedly class A or A/B, 2 X 20 amp fuses is probably about a 250 watt amplifier, and if it is 2-ohm stable that would be 2-ohms per channel. If it works, give it a try on some full-range speakers.
