wiring 6 speakers to amp in 1996 Suburban

Hello.  I wanted to know how to wire my 6 1996 Suburban speakers to my 4 channel amp.  I took out the tweeter in case you are wondering.  I had to run speaker cable on one side because the regular wires were burnt out.  I wanted to make sure that i ran the wires right.  I am supposed to run wires from my speaker all the way to the amp, right?  Should I run speaker wire for all the speakers, or just that one side that is burnt out?  Also I had done this before but my amp always went out saying it was overloaded and would cut off when the volume went above 12.  What is the cause of this?  Thanks for the help in advance. 

Connecting too many speakers together (in parallel) will cause an overload condition on the amplifier and it will respond by failing, which is what you are experiencing.  You should replace the bad wiring at the least, and given the fact that there WAS burnt wiring in this car...you should go ahead and run all new speaker wire.  Second, ditch the factory speakers and buy new aftermarket models.  Connect one pair of 4 ohm speakers to each side of the amp so that your four channel amp is powering two pairs of speakers.  A "speaker" can be a coaxial with tweeter attached or it could be a component set with separate crossover, mid and tweeter.

Ok.  Thanks for the input.  I have replaced the factory speakers already.  So what about the last set of speakers?  Do I have to get a new amp for those or do I just disconnect them or connect it to the head unit?  Thanks.

It depends on how important a place the third set of speakers is for.  If you need as much output as the first two sets, use another two channel amp.  But if one of these sets is used primarily for rear-fill sound, connect them to the factory speaker wiring at the deck.  But you don't need to replace speakers in a vehicle to match the same number as the car came equipped with.  Two sets of good speakers in your car would be plenty sufficient.

Ok, here's the deal.... i bought an awsome 1996 Suburban, aftermarket "American Racing" rims, chrome nurf bars, anyway.. the stereo is factory but the problem is that all the speakers work except the full range speakers in the front doors but from time to time all sound just stops. I thought this was a problem with the head unit (cassette/am fm with the CD player below the HVAC controls) so i replaced it with an after market CD player, same problem.. have sound, then completely at random it just goes dead. Is there a distribution amplifier somewhere that is on the blink or what?   HELP!!! can't find answers anywhere!!
