Anybody know how to tell if my Explorer has a separate amplifier / head unit? It has the dual media head unit with a 6 disc in the console as well as the volume controls on the back of the console.

I'll bet it does if you have volume controls on the console. Take a peek in the right rear quarter panel and you should see the amp there.
