I have a 02 sport trac,Im putting in a stereo with a pioneer eq-6500. I am using the factory speakers and I believe they have a factory amp on them. do I need to run an amp or is there a way to use the factory one?

If memory serves me correctly the EQ 6500 is strictly a pre-amp equalizer. It requires RCA input and output. If your headunit has RCA ouputs then they will feed the equalizer audio in. The problem though is the factory amps don't take RCA inputs without an adaptor. By the time you purchase and wire them in you would be better off replacing the factory amps with aftermarket ones. It will sound better and there shouldn't be any major noise issues. The EQ 6500 is designed to work with front, rear and subwoofer channels. To use it to it's fullest, you will need 6 channels of amplification.

Also, Do I need to completely remove the factory amps or can I just not use the harnesses when I hook up the new system?

I have a 02 ford explorer sport trac, I am not sure what kind of speakers are in it but they are the ford premium sound system.I am putting in an eq and wondered what size amp would be best. I was thinking a 50x4??

Why do feel the need for an eq at all?

Any four channel amp between 50-100 watts will be fine for the factory speakers and hopefully some after market ones. Keep in mind most factory speakers are very efficient and don't need much power, plan on upgrading soon.
