I am trying to use the jensen RCA adapter on a stock radio. I hooked up the speaker wires but I am not sure where the black wire goes to. I used it as remote turn on but it did not work. Then I tried to use the amp without the remote wire and turn it on just by using a 12volt source tha amp came on but no sound out of it. Can someone tell me what to do

Ok I am taking it that the black wire is a ground wire but then where do I hook the remote wire for the amp

Sounds like your talking about a hi to low converter. A high to low converter taps onto your speaker wires and converts them to a RCA connection. Now yes that black wire is a ground. On a high to low converter there is no out put for your remote connection. The amp requires that you connect the remote turn on wire to turn it on and off. So if it’s not connected the amp won’t turn on and you won’t get any sound. If you have a stock head unit you will most likely have to tap into a switch ignition source so your amp will turn on and off with the ignition. What kind of car do you have and dose your cigarette lighters power go on and off with the ignition or dose it constantly stay on?

Well I am going to hook it up the the 12volt switched power but I was not sure about the ground wire. When I did not ground it there was no sound from the RCA outputs. So when I ground it there will be sound coming from the stock radio

If you get sound when it's grounded then hook up the groun. Just remember you will not get any sound until you’re able to turn your amp on with the remote wire. You can however temporarily test your setup if you run a wire from the amps + power connection to the amps remote connection. Just be sure to disconnect the wire or your amp or it will stay on and drain the battery. Also if your converter has gain controls don’t forget to set them.

Dose it work when you hook up the ground? If not are you sure you have it hooked up correctly? Here is wiring diagram for your truck https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/detail.asp?info=alarm&year=1998&make=Chevrolet&model=S-Series%20Pickup&ID=17462&type=Stereo

How do you have it wired? Check your connections with the diagram above. And I believe your truck has a factory amp and it must be installed after the amp. Pull out your factory speakers and note the wire colors they should be the same color that you are taping into for the converter. Do this and then let me know

well I could not call you. My cell is not working right. Anyway I got is working finally. I had to get a new one. The one I had was not good. The only problem I have now is that the sub sounds like sh*t. Is this because of the adapter or is the sub blown. Let me know

Do your hi to low concreters have gain controls? If they do you might want to adjust the one going to you sub amp. Also what kind of X-over do you have for the sub? And is the sub in an enclosure that was designed specifically for that sub?

there is no cross over and I am not sure about the box. I am doing this for a friend. I tink his amp over powers the sub because of the way it sounds likes its blown. So I think it is to much for his sub. I am going to hook my subs up to his amp tomorrow to see if thats it

Sounds like he could have the sub in the wrong enclosure. Each sub has its own set or parameters. These parameter are then used to calculate the correct volume for the enclosure. You can not just take any sub and plug it into any box.The sub has to be designed for the enclosure for it to work and sound correctly. Also dose the amp have a built in x over?

not sure if it has a built in cross over. I know the sub works in that box because when hookep up to a different amp It sounded fine so I think its too much power. I will try it tomorrow and let you know what happens

that "black wire" you are talking about does not need to be hooked up ... it only needs to be hooked up if you have engine noise ... if you dont need it hooked up which i dont think you do in your appliclation then you will get distorted sound and may be what you are hearing .... those GM factory radios are hella powerfull so make sure you are trimming the signal back enough or your amp is gonna sound bad
