I am planning on adding the optima red top battery out of my old car into the trunk of my new one. My question is, do i need a isolator,circuit breaker, or is a wafer fuse enough? If I do need an isolator, what size? I have found some that look like simple relays and some that have 3 or 4 posts. Which of these is better?

I'm no expert, but i belive you want to use a isolator. And i beilve the reason is so both batterys stay charged at the same level.

Have you done the big three on your new vehicle? I woud highly suggest doing that.
Sometimes adding a second battery can cause more problems than it would actually help you out. Have you tried doing a search on here about related info? Or maybe give us some more information on what kind of system you have in your car. HU? Amps? Wiring? Car info.

I have a JVC AVX1 headunit, 1 JBL BP1200.1, and a pair of CVR 12s. I have 4 ga running to the trunk. I plan on upgrading to 0 ga power wire when I get my second 1200.1 and second pair of subs. I have not done the big three yet. BTW My new car is a 2000 Impala LS with a 3.8 engine. Does anyone know if the 9C1 police package had a HO alt?

you only need a isolator if you have 2 different kinds or sized batteries in you car so one doesnt suck the other one dry. but if you have 2 of the same batteries then all you have to do is fuse them right. I'm pretty sure that is the way the batteries work together.

I have the stock starting battery and a Red Top right now. When I get the rest of my equipment, I will have the Red Top up front and 2 Yellow Tops in back. What size isolator do I need? Does anyone know of a HO Alt for a 2000+ Impala?

I'd use a 200A isolator. Do a search on here for alternators and you'll find numerous places to look.

try looking at this site.. www.alternatorparts.com he is pretty good and has some new technology stuff out there... instead of 2 yellow tops why not look at like a kintek battery or other audio style battery?? and you should use an isolator then... a stinger sr200 (200 amp) should be sufficient but they do have biggers ones that hav ethe 3 and 4 terminals on them... youngone is right if you use to identical batteries.. ie if they were made in the same production run.. you do not need to isolate one... ------------- S.O.B custsoms..
