i got this amp for xmas...its pushing 1 12" alpine type R. What im wondering is if its better to have a 0.4 gain with +6 amp bass n +2 HU bass......or is it better to run 4.0 gain w/+16amp bass n 2HU bass?

Someone please help me out.......maybe even help explain what exactly the gain is

"Gain" is the input sensitivity of the amplifier and is designed to be set so that it matches the pre-amp voltage output from your head unit.  Do a search (see the top of the forum) for setting gain and you will find several threads discussing the proper procedures.

I recommend setting both your amp bass boost and the HU bass tone control to "0" and then properly set your gain.  After that, leave the bass boost at "0" and make fine adjustments with the HU tone controls.
