My 2005 Chevy pickup cam with an AM/FM radio, I purchased a AM/FM/CD/Cassette from Ebay. I know that I have to have the dealer activate the radio, but when I installed the new radio it has a extra plugin that the old one does not, therefore I have a couple of questions:

1) Is this a Bose Radio?

2) Do I need the Bose Amp, or can I jumper the pins and eliminate the amp? Or perhaps use a different amp?

3) Any other suggestions?

Thank you

Rich

is the radio you bought out a 2005 vehicle? if it isnt it wont work at all..... they are not backwards compatible....if it is the extra plug is likely the 12 pin aux in plug.....  if it's a Bose unit it will say Bose right on the face of the radio.....

like kgerry said...it is probably the plug for an AUX in....just plug in what you can and see if it comes on..if so it should be fine

thanks everyone for you help;

The radio was manufactured 10/04, so I assume it is from a 2005 truck. It is does not say Bose on the front, so it probably is not a Bose. I plan on taking the truck to the dealer to have the radio reset.

thanks

I would go with an aftermarket provided you do not have any Bose or OnStar stuff, you can get by without the adapter as well, all you loose are door/low something chimes and retained accessory power, neither of which I ever missed when I replaced my radio. That is if you can return the one you have, it would cost a lot less then the factory one you bought and have more functionality and better sound quality as well.

The radio will have label on the side with the letters SERV MAN and then a number the number indicates the model year. If the radio did not come out of another fullsize GM truck, it won't work. The dealer will have to program the radio into the truck with SPS programming. To save yourself a bill from them for nothing, give the part number for the radio to the parts department and ask them if it is for a 2005 full size C or K body truck. Expect to pay at least one hour shop labour to set up the radio. The additional plug on the radio is for Onstar equipped vehicles and XM radio.
