I have a friend that is wanting an alpine type r sub for his truck.  I am unable to think straight but i think that he needs the dual 4 ohm type r.  The amp he will be using is a 4 channel infinity ref 7541.  Like i said i am unable to think straight on this one and dont want him to buy the wrong thing.  Any input would be greatly appreciated.

How do you want to run it?  Bridged, off a single channel, one channel to each coil?  I don't suggest the last one though.

I want to run it the best way possible.  i know the right amp which would be a mono is not available for him.  I just want to do it the best way for what he has available really.

You are right that a mono amp would be best.  However, for the time being, you can try running the fronts off the front channels, and bridging the rears to a dual 2 (wiring the coils in series for 4 ohms mono).
