ok, here's the deal. i installed the kenwood kdc-x889, everything went ok, but being the idiot that i am, i didnt read about the security crap and the demo mode thing before i installed it. i started the car up, it gave me the demo mode stuff, blah blah, and i turned the car off. now when i turn on the car, nothing, no lights or anything. the only thing i can do is push the 'SRC' button which causes the motor to spin but still nothing else happens, it kinda locks up after that and i cant push the src button again. i assume it needs to be reset, right? how do i do that, do i need to send it to kenwood or something? thanks for the help

Search the faceplate- it may be that little button to the right of the presets.

yea, ive tried that many times but all it does for me is allow me to push the src button again and it still just makes that noise. i just thought i read somewhere that with the kenwood's if u dont give it a code or something upon installation in goes into lockup mode or some crap, then it has to be sent off to be reset somehow. i never even gave it a code or anything, brand new out of the box. maybe its just wired wrong?

If you never set the security code, it is not your problem.  Also, the unit will light up and ask for code tobe input.  Sounds like you lost accessory power or the deck is deffective.  Always check the simple things before look for more difficult solutions.

Yeah, if you already reset it, then you're constant power has probably been lost.  Ispker is right- if you never set a code, that is not your problem.  Pull the radio, and test the yellow wire for constant- if there's no power, check your fuses.

ok, seems like the only way that i can get it to power up is if i wire the yellow and red from the harness to the yellow from the car (all three together, leaving the orange unwired). id leave it like this except i dont wanna drain my battery and it doesnt remember my settings when i turn the car off and back on again. seems to be something with the acc 12V or something, any ideas? thanks

Are you basing you're wiring on the factory wire colors or did you by a wiring harness or lookup the wire chart? I'm on my 3rd Excelon and have had one crap out and only repond in total anarchy.

Make sure you are not wiring power or ground into the dimming or illumination as this can sometimes I will seem to work fine but then cause many problems, even blown tail and panel light fuses (as I found out the hard way)
